TATTOO AFTERCARE

Healing with a dermal shield bandage:

    • If you are applying your own dermal shield bandage, be sure to thoroughly clean your tattoo with antibacterial soap

    • Dry your tattoo with a clean paper towel, make sure your tattoo is thoroughly dry before you place your bandage.

    • Clean around your tattoo with isopropyl alcohol (ideally 70%- this helps the bandage stick more easily) and remove the white part of your bandage, sticky side facing your skin.

    • Place the bandage on your tattoo as if it were a sticker, try for as few air bubbles as possible, starting in the middle and rolling the sides out. You want the bandage to fully cover your tattoo with room on the sides.

    • Remove the top layer of the bandage

    • You can leave this bandage on for between 3-5 days. Check with your artist if you’d like a better idea of how long you should leave it on.

    • When you remove your bandage, it helps to do so in the shower. Roll up one of the corners and gently pull off the bandage. Thoroughly clean your tattoo with antibacterial soap and let it dry out for 24 hours before applying any lotion or ointment.

    • When you moisturize your tattoo use something gentle (Shea butter is a great gentle lotion and Aquaphor is a great ointment) use a very small amount, your tattoo needs to breathe to heal properly.

    • The healing process generally takes around 2 weeks, during this time you should minimize exposure to sunlight and avoid soaking your tattoo (showering is fine)

    • Your tattoo will get itchy during the healing process, this is normal. Be sure to PAT your tattoo instead of scratching it during this phase of healing so you don’t damage your healing tattoo.

    • After 2 weeks you can treat your tattoo like normal skin

Tattoo healing with a temporary bandage:

    • Your Tattoo Artist will send you home with a dry-lock bandage securely fastened with medical tape.

    • You may either remove this bandage the same day of your tattoo, or if your appointment is in the evening you may keep on your bandage over night. When you remove your bandage, thoroughly clean your tattoo with antibacterial soap. (Be sure to clean off any blood or ointment that may be on your tattoo.)

    • You can either air dry your tattoo, or pat it dry with a clean paper towel.

    • After you’ve given your tattoo a chance to dry out, you can use your choice of either ointment (Aquaphor is a good choice) or a gentle lotion (Shea Butter is also a good choice.) Regardless of what you choose to moisturize your tattoo with, use a very small amount. Overusing ointment or lotion on your tattoo runs the risk of causing inflammation. Your tattoo needs to breathe to heal properly. Moisturize only when your tattoo feels dry.

    • The healing process generally takes around 2 weeks, during this time you should minimize exposure to sunlight, and do not soak your tattoo (showering is fine)

    • Your tattoo will get itchy during the healing process, this is normal. Be sure to PAT your tattoo instead of scratching it during this phase of healing so you don’t damage your healing tattoo.

    • After 2 weeks you can treat your tattoo like normal skin
